E. Reid Gilberts Romance Novel Will Take Readers Back in Time

TUCSON, Ariz. (PRWEB) December 15, 2011

In the same grand manner of a Shakespearean love story, Shall We Gather at the River, a novel by E. Reid Gilbert, will take readers on a fascinating journey back in time and witness an unlikely romance blossom in the heart of the mountains of Virginia.

The story unfolds in the 1870s and follows the romance of two people from different ethnic backgrounds: Jimmie Sue, a white farm boy and Madeleen, a colored sharecropper girl. The book shares the charm of the classic Romeo and Juliet but the obstacles that the two star-crossed lovers go through are far greater than what Shakespeares protagonists had to face. The story revolves around the teenagers but it also gives a poignant glimpse of real relationships between races that flourished in the post-civil war period as well as the historical and cultural realities of the times.

Shall We Gather at the River is a beautifully written love story painted against the backdrop of an unforgettable era in history. Readers will be captivated by the characters and their experiences while relishing the lush and rustic atmosphere of the Appalachians.
